A gem of a performance space, Convocation Hall was opened in 1915 and holds an audience of 426 people. A rectangular room wrapped by balcony on three sides, the seating in Convocation Hall is fixed, theatre style. The venue is most suitable for recitals and chamber music ensembles, although larger ensembles can be accommodated.
There are two nine-foot Steinway Concert Grand pianos in Convocation Hall. The New York Steinway was refurbished in 2007 and is available for rent for most performances and events. The Hamburg Steinway is available by special arrangement only. Convocation Hall is also home to the Department's fortepiano, harpsichord and Casavant organ.
Lighting in Convocation Hall is restricted to a basic stage wash, suitable for musical performance, with very limited ability to customize the lighting for theatrical reasons.
Convocation Hall does have built-in multi-media presentation equipment available for rent, as well as the capability to reinforce sound as required for performances or meetings. Full recording services are available in Convocation Hall.
Please note: regarding performances and weddings, staffing and technical costs are in addition to rental rates and will be discussed prior to finalizing your booking.
